The Brain Gym ® program is a holistic system based on the principles of kinesiology and learning theory, developed by learning specialist Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D. and his wife and partner Gail E. Dennison. Utilizing 26 designed movement activities and related techniques, the Brain Gym ® system helps people reach their peak mental performance for life’s most important moments.
The Brain Gym ® program offers a proven approach that addresses and incorporates the often overlooked physical components of learning — visual, auditory, motor, and stress management skills. What started as a method to help remedial learners become stronger readers is now a program that has helped thousands of people in over 80 countries around the world discover their peak mental and inner strength.
People of all ages use the learning program known as Brain Gym® to bring about rapid and often dramatic improvements in their reading, writing, language, and numerical skills. Many others use the work to profoundly enhance the quality of their attention and concentration, relationship and communication, memory and organizational skills, athletic performance, and more.
The Edu-K books have been translated into more than fifty languages, and the curriculum is being put to good use within a growing number of training programs incorporating athletic, and institutional settings. (For more information, visit https://breakthroughsinternational.org .)
The Brain Gym ® activities are lively and fun to do and have been shown, through years of field studies, research reports, and clinical experience, to teach learners the physical skills they need for academic success.
The ability to learn is especially important in the first years of school when children are laying the foundation for their future education and adult life. To enhance the ease with which youngsters learn, Brain Gym ® is taught worldwide in thousands of schools.
Though initially developed for young learners, the Brain Gym® program of today serves the needs of:
This program and its unique movements and processes were developed by the authors over more than three decades, through extensive study in areas that include education, psychology, and neural and muscular function. Brain Gym® 101, the core introductory course, explores the application of movements to develop the physical aspects of learning, thus enhancing both
academic and interpersonal facility.
Movement-based learning has demonstrated its effectiveness for more than a quarter-century. Edu-K presents the hypothesis, consistent with the latest findings in neuroscience, that new neural pathways grow when we move with intention. Our information on the localization of brain function is deliberately simplified, and offered primarily for its effectiveness as an aid in experiential learning.
